I have the following story lines running in my head, from years to only the past few weeks:

#1: The MST3K 512 AU. This would be the one where Joel doesn't escape but Mike is shot up there because Joel does some fast talking that experimenting on Mike would be way better than killing him. Things are awkward, as no one on the Satellite really knows what to do with Mike and vis versa.

In this, I also include my three bits of KTMA cannon: Beeper existed, Cambot can talk, and Joel still writes letters to Sandy. All of which really happened! Unfortunately, the first two happened in the pilot...

#2: Torchwood Genderswap: A routine Rift pick up goes south when the piece of tech implodes. Jack does his meat shield impression, but instead of being blown to pieces he's tuned female. And not only does the tech not wear off, anything less than death by atomization leaves Jack female shaped. This is how the story of how Jack mourns that the shoes he's been wearing for the last few decades don't fit, and how everyone else deals way less well. Set post-Meat, but time passes without "Reset" ever occurring. Also includes Alice and Steven Carter, and Rhiannon, Johnny, David, and Mica Davies.

#3: Jeeves and the Jewels that Weren't: Bertie and Jeeves can't even escape young lovestruck couples and imperious Aunts in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the only story where I had to make a seating chart.

I think we've all learned something important from the conversation here about whether Ianto is a Mary-Sue or not.

Firstly, we also learned that you should really agree on terms before you start arguing. Especially since the person who brought the conversation up [livejournal.com profile] karokegal was asking "Is Ianto Jones the Self-Insert of Rusty to shag Captain Jack/John Barrowman by character proxy?" not "Does Ianto have an Aura of Smooth that let's him get away with not getting shot over the Lisa incident, and shown to be so much smarter and more awesome than the rest of the team?"

Secondly, I managed to argue both sides of the discussion. Namely, that Ianto does not display the characteristics of a Mary-Sue, but that Rusty is probably shagging characters by proxy even though it's not likely to be Ianto that is avatar. Which is probably the answer that we can all agre to ( she said egotistically ).

Thirdly, that people may watch the same show with their eyes, their brain is putting together the show in different ways. I think [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me said it best in another: "We're all watching different shows, and that's okay." All those different points of view makes for a more interesting conversation, and even if you can't agree, you at least make your own arguments more sound.

Lastly and most importantly, that Fundamentalism doesn't work. If people can't agree on the petty differences of this, with the writer alive and us living in a very similar culture, how the hell are we supposed to agree to the One True Reading of texts which are thousands of years old, from culture's we can't really imagine living in today?
