Better One, or better Two?

Lame ripp-offs abound here. However, the first one actually makes sense.
Part Two: From Beneath You It Devours
The warehouse where Joel was currently working in, while not the smallest place where he had worked at, was certainly the gloomiest. The area he used for his workspace was near the center of the building, and was well disguised by the fact that the shipping crate he was working was no different from the other abandoned crates that filled the place.
At this particular moment in time, Joel had just finished the final engine tests. Joel couldn't help but give a small bounce when he saw that the results were well within the ship's tolerance levels. All that he needed to do was wait for the igniter to recharge and then he was ready for lift off.
Well, wait for the ingiter to charge and his passenger to show up. Joel sighed and flipped on the radio, hoping that he might catch something interesting while he was cleaning up. He carefully wiped down each of the tools he was working with, put them in the tool bag, and slung it over his shoulder.
Suddenly, the program he was listening in to was broken into by a news bulletin. He moved closer to the radio and turned it up.
"This is News Anchor reporting for PCNT. Earlier we reported of a lighting storm without thunder, which struck the ground 29 times in the same location, and a EMP blast in the area around Working in the UK."
Lighting storm? A lighting storm striking the same place multiple times? Joel thought to himself. Where had he heard about this before...
"Until now, no further information had come out of the area, but we now have some eyewitness accounts of the horror that occurred there. Apparently some sort of mad giant robot came up from the ground..."
Giant robot? What is this, Paradigm City?
"...vaporized bystanders in seconds..."
While Joel couldn't recall a lighting storm without thunder, or gigantic robots, he did hear of something involving some sort of weapon that was supposed to vaporize humans. And gigantic machines that were supposed to carry the weapons.
Joel took a deep breath to clear his mind. In less than two hours, he would be gone.
"...a similar lighting storm has taken place in Osseo..."
Osseo? Joel looked at the timer on the ignition and decide it was too big of a risk to keep it running. He flipped off the igniter, and then the radio, and put the small appliance in the tool bag as well. When the lights went out, he would be able to turn the ignitor back on.
Joel walked out of the warehouse and looked around. A steady stream of traffic was heading west, out of the metropolitan area. Towards the east... was that a building turning in place? Joel backed into the warehouse and peeked around the door. Yes, the building was moving. The whole intersection seemed to be rotating, actually.
"Don't you think you should be doing something to get us out here instead of gawking the apocalypse?"
Joel tore his eyes from the street and moved from the door to look at Dr. Erhardt. "I can't turn on the igniter until after the EMP blast, unless you want to stay here until I can fix it?"
"Not really."
"Then we wait."
They both looked out to down the street where the buildings had finished rotating, and were crumbling onto the intersection.
"This wasn't suppose to happen for years" Dr. Erhardt stated. Joel didn't get a chance to ask him what he knew, because the lights in the warehouse flickered, then popped, sending sparks showering down on the two men.
"Close the doors, I'll go start the ship up." Joel said as he went over to the shipping crate.
Dr. Erhardt took one last look up the street. People were running down the street, dodging the stalled cars. Then he looked further up and saw that the machine had risen, and was making it's way towards them.
He raced over to the crate. "They're coming this way!" he shouted and pulled Joel out of the crate. "We have to go!"
Joel closed the crate, hoping that the box would protect the spacecraft inside. "This way!" he said as he pulled Dr. Erhardt long with him to a different exit than the one Dr. Erhardt had seen the machine from. "Hopefully it will go straight for a couple of miles!"
They burst out of the doors of the warehouse and joined the masses that were fleeing the Martians, wondering if they would ever make it back to the warehouse alive.

Date: 2005-08-13 01:12 am (UTC)Yay! Joel!
Yay! Unconventional allies!
I'm interest to know why/how Erhardt and Joel got together...
Not that way.
Stop it.
I said nothing.
And the way I spealled Erhardt is how Josh spells it on his website, stinkbuger.com
And yes I did look it up, just to make sure. I thought it looked a wee off.
So there's us MSTies being nitpicky for no reason.
Just like Muppet fans.
And I'm both, so there you have it.

I have no intention of EVER slashing Dr. Erhardt/Joel. For some reason that pairing gives me the creeps worse than a Pearl pairing. Not as fundelmentaly wrong as a Joel/'bot pairing though, that's just *shudders*.
