Okay, last weekend I rushed. It was exhausting. Not the walking around for twenty hours, but I gave over 100 interviews. And my brain only stopped once the entire process! Which was very, very awesome.

Though, I don't know if I want to join a sorority. The first thing was no personal space. But the other big thing was the fact that the sorority girls themselves were kinda... creepy? Not in an ax murder way, but they were mostly all brunette, almost all business majors, and they were all white. I went to get on the bus back to my dorm after Saturday, and just a random collection of rushers had more minorities than I saw in the houses - which isn't surprising, considering I saw maybe four non-white girls that were sorority members. Hell, I have more non-white people on my floor than I saw that entire weekend, and I have only 34 people on my floor!

And it's not like I just didn't see them - at each house all the sisters greeted us at the door, so you at the very least saw everyone in the house, even if you didn't talk to them.

I brought this up, and it wasn't just me who noticed this. I talked to my Ro Gamma ( kinda like a rushing councilor ) and she very quickly stated that of course they has a non-discrimination policy.

Yeah, it's not discrimination. But something is keeping non-white people away.

And it's not because there are multi-cultural sororities and historically black sororities that they can join, as well. For one thing, those sorities aren't part of the main sorority system, so though they have selection criteria ( like the all-black sorority that my RA belongs to ) they don't do events with the other Greek organizations. Not even the Little 500!

Plus, one of the sororities that I really liked, Delta Zeta? Was the one that went to DePaw University to recruit after they chucked all the non-conventionally pretty members out. Ick!

In essence: cranky, and confused about everything.

Good luck with whatever you do with them. I have lived in college town since 1985 but I still don't understand Sororities and Fraternities...

I have to wait until January to see whether or not I get asked back by anyone, so I have time to decide what the hell I'm doing.

Wow that is a long wait. I used to walk along our Frat House Row on the way to Saturday football games and it was kinda weird to see crowds of lily white people partying behind each house. I'm not sure why our African American Fraternities and Sororities haven't built houses along the Row. I can't ever recall seeing a non-African American minority in a campus Frat either, although I did know a gay girl who was in a sorority her freshman year. She wasn't out then and I'm not sure why she left.
