"How much longer?" Gypsy asked.
Joel mumbled something in reply. Then he took the roll of masking tape out of his mouth for a second to say, "Not much longer."
"Okay." A few minutes later Gypsy again asked, "How much longer?"
This time Joel just rolled his eyes, and continued taping.
She started flicking the end of her tubing back and forth, needing to do something besides monitoring the satellite's functions. The satellite was functioning quite well for once, which meant that at any moment now, some vital piece of machinery would blow up. She wondered if the carbon scrubbers where the next piece of equipment that would suffer mechanical failure.
"Gyps?"
"Joel?"
"I'm done, do you want to check over yourself while I'll get the paint?"
"What color is Gypsy going to be?" she asked as she studied herself in the junk-rimmed mirror hanging on the wall to see if Joel had covered everything on her head.
He didn't answer. She turned around and saw him holding a big box of spray cans. "Joel?"
"I'd thought you'd like to pick out your own color."
"Really?"
"Really." He put down the box and Gypsy started eagerly rooting though the box, looking for the perfect color. Eventually, she sized one with her mouth and held it out to Joel. He took it from her, and read the label. "Gypsy Lavender?"
"It's has my name on it, and it's purple! Gypsy likes purple."
"Purple, huh? Now, I'm going to have to cover you're eye so I don't get any spray paint on your lens, okay Gyps?"
She cocked her head. "Cover an eye? For a surprise?"
Joel smiled. "That too, hon. Now, here we go." he said and taped a piece of construction paper over her eye. "All right?"
"Cormen."
Joel picked up the spray can that the two of them had picked out and started painting the robot. When he had a somewhat large area covered, he winced, but continued spraying.
"Joel?"
"Almost done... there." he said, capping the can. He went to remove the piece of paper from Gypsy's eye, but paused. "If you don't like it, we just have to wait a little while for it to set, and we'll do another color." Then he removed the blind.
Gypsy looked over to the mirror. After a few moments, she simply said "Sad."
"Just a few hours, and you'll be the right color."
"Gypsy isn't sad, because Gypsy can be fixed. Color is sad."
"Blue sometimes makes people sad." He replied, wrapping one arm around her head and bringing her closer to him, not minding the still wet paint.
"Is Joel blue?" she asked.
He thought for a few seconds before saying "Maybe, A little. But not as dark as your paint coat is right now." he teased and released Gypsy from their hug. "Want to pick out something a little more purple?"
"Yeah!" she said, and hurried moved over to the box to look at the labels again. "Joel? Is metal flake a color?"
Author's Note #2: While gypsy lavneder not a spray paint color, it is a gel color. And Movie!Gypsy has a base coat of dark blue, with purple over top...
