I also really like how the bell starts keeps cruving down until it reaches those users in their 80s, upticks 210 users, drops again, then jumps up about 9,256 users when they break their centruy mark. Of course, when the five year olds measure 1,038,807, that ten thousand tick up...

I'd like to mention that, yes, I do understand that peole are lying about their age and not giving them, skewing their results. However, these stats are what the site is going off of when considering what their userbase is. It's why I keep harping on the 1,038,807 five year old users.

Did you account the fact that there are people who lie about their age? In which that's not really going to tell you anything....

I put that in. I loves my million five year old users.

The users who are under 12 are probably lying, pets, or perhaps parents who are posting memories for their kids. One of the parents I know on LiveJournal does this to post pictures of her kid, tell people what she's done lately, etc.

Actual users under 12 are not permitted on LiveJournal for legal reasons. If LiveJournal knows about them, they are legally obligated to remove them from the site.

As for people lying about being 80, 90, or 121, there certainly are several thousand of them. That said, the average age of users most likely curves down gradually. The oldest user I am personally aware of from my days helping run LJ who I know to be real was 89. She passed away a few years back, I believe.

I should clarify.

Users 12 and under are not permitted on LiveJournal for legal reasons, specifically because of COPPA regulations (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/coppa.htm).

I do understand that there is quite a bit of lying and/or misinformation going on here. It's the reason why I keep harping on the five year old users: I think it's the best way to show that the statistics don't make any sense at all.

Which makes it worse when I think that there's a possiblilty that this nonsense is actually being used to make descisions.

And, I admit, I was a little confused where you got your data as well when I was putting this together.
