I just got back from seeing RENT.

*continues to weep buckets*

*pops some asprin*

I also saw Nunsense this weekend, it was kinda weird, but it was funny. And I won a little religous medal thing.

*has flashback to chuch scene*

*weeps even more*

I'm evil.

RENT was emotional and touching... until Mimi did what she did at the end. I'm sorry, but that was cheese. I also couldn't stand her through most of the play. Go figure. My word, Benny and Roger have awful taste in women. And then all the rest of the girls on the school art trip were smitten with Roger even when Mark was, like, ten times hotter. [/valleygirl]

Was this the movie version? I've only seen the stage version, and so the logicists of the movie have thrown me for a loop. The pacing on RENT is wacky; the first act is set over the course of a night and the second act is set over the span of the following year. It works to an extent because there's a physical "break" in the intermission, but the movie doesn't have that luxury. I also heard that they switched the setting from the mid to late 90s to the late 80s. o_O

I really didn't care for Maureen. In fact, I kept bouncing back and forth between the idea of Joanne/Mark and Joanne/Maureen/Mark - yes, I know Joanne is a lesbin, but at least with Maureen and Mark, Joanne gets her cake and someone commited to the relationship.

Though I do forgive Maureen for talking with the waitress. Mostly because she was just being a friendly drunk.

*cough*

Mimi. Mimi. Mimi. The herion is just making you die faster honey. My Dad and I have a theory that she's going to die soon after the movie takes place.

And Mark was still pretty hot. Then again, he works sound, so there was a certin prediesposition towards him. Roger was kind of scruffy looking, and not in the Indiana Jones sort of scruffy.

I've never seen the stage version, and was super hyped to see the movie because the odds of me getting to a stage verison of the show is very, very low. But it was a pretty decent adaptation. To break up the first and second acts, they played some of Marks footage.

And they did move it from the late 90's to 89 and 90. I'm not sure for the logic about that was, since it only succeded in making have the charecters life expectency drop.

Oh, and the one of the very few things they messed up in the movie, is at the end when Mark is singing his new song to Mimi, they needed to do a deep pan scan/the shot that gets the foreground and backgroud action.

Yeah, it was kinda werid since it's this dramatic moment, and I'm telling the director that he shot the scence wrong. *sigh*

Bizarre, if only because the stage version made references to the internet and such.

And then, and then, and then when they cut to Mark and Roger... *sniffle* and Roger's all red from cryin' real hard already!

*bawls*
