RENT was emotional and touching... until Mimi did what she did at the end. I'm sorry, but that was cheese. I also couldn't stand her through most of the play. Go figure. My word, Benny and Roger have awful taste in women. And then all the rest of the girls on the school art trip were smitten with Roger even when Mark was, like, ten times hotter. [/valleygirl]
Was this the movie version? I've only seen the stage version, and so the logicists of the movie have thrown me for a loop. The pacing on RENT is wacky; the first act is set over the course of a night and the second act is set over the span of the following year. It works to an extent because there's a physical "break" in the intermission, but the movie doesn't have that luxury. I also heard that they switched the setting from the mid to late 90s to the late 80s. o_O
