Jul. 2nd, 2009 10:11 amI am reading over the a fan's re-edit of the 2005 Steven Spielberg "War of the Worlds." One of the recommendations said that it was closer to the book.
So I check it out. I like different re-tellings of "War of the Worlds." I was a little sad because I assume that the cameo of the stars from the 1953 film, but it should be interesting.
I am so incredibly wrong. The "darker ending" the OP was talking about changed the ending completely. The aliens didn't die from infection of various Earth diseases but mankind retreated to underground bunkers and turned the surface to radioactive slag so the aliens would go away. Or die, but since I remember thebell jars atomic bomb proof shields from the 1953 version I think it's just "go away."
...There should be a The War of the Worlds/Torchwood fusion. The only question is when the alien invasion should take place. 1898, 1938, 1953, or present?
Absolutely mind blowing and one of the first edits I saw that led me into this hobby! CBB took the 2005 version and totaly revamped it, making it closer to the original story by H. G. Wells (with a much darker ending). Excellent work on this one! Pretty much anything by CBB is recommended.
