Sep. 29th, 2009 04:58 pmSometimes I am surprised to find that I have a very strong view of something that I didn't even know I had an opinion on.
Namely, I believe the criminal law system exists to serve those who have been wronged, instead of an abstract concept of justice. Because while I believe in justice, it's one of those Platonic ideals that do not directly touch day-to-day living. Justice certainly does not come out in a court room, as many things that deserve justice do not even get to the court house steps.
I cannot imagine how society and it's interests is served by the victim's additional suffering.
