What do you mean, no square dancing?

twincityhackerDad and I went to go see "War of the Worlds" this eveing, and while the 1953 version will always hold a place in my heart, this one was better. If not just for the fact that they did not use bell jars to create the Martian sheilds. The sheilds were only vaugely remcient of bell jars.
I was upset that they changed the line in the movie from the trailer, because it's a war between men and ants. Subsituting the word maggots makes no sense. Dad thought that they should have killed the kid. And that triumpent music when they blow up a machine when it's tottering around was totaly uneccesary.
They stuck closer to the book in this version, because they actually drank blood, which was nice. I was on edge the entire time they were in the basement trying to figure out whether the guy in the basment was the Artilleryman or the Curate, until he killed him. Then I realized they had combined the charecters, which was a nice touch. But the way they had buried the machines million of years ago? Also cool. But the best thing was the opening and the ending. Not only did they use Morgan Freeman, but the way it went from deep inner space in the waterdroplet to outer space was kick ass.
I have the sudden urge to write a War of the Worlds crossover.

Date: 2005-07-22 09:13 pm (UTC)I couldn't figure out which version to write the cross over with. Since I had to screw with some time to get them to match properly because the orginal War of the Worlds crossover idea involved a fanfiction universe that was not mine.
But I worked out which universe, so hopefully it's gonna work out.
