On DI:
It's good that gobal finals was the end of this years Destinatinon Imagination. The team was ready to kill each other, and I think it effected our preformance. Andrea and Kristen were sick of Kat being a control freak, Kat was sick of Donna (the coach) and Kristen being control freaks, and I was sick of Andrea's politics. I could look pass pretty much everything, except for her view that she expressed when we were watching JAG. It was one were there was a case of a guy that was accused of beating up a gay man, and of the possibley gay serviceman that attacked the attacker. Then one of the higher-ups wanted the serviceman thrown out because he was gay framed him, Andrea said the plot was brilliant.
I threw a pillow at her because I thought she ment the idea of kicking him out was good, not the plan. I thought the plan was good, myself. Then later on we were arguing about whether homosexuality was wrong, which it is NOT, and she said that if she had a gay cousin she would disown them, and then she went on the shit list. Still wrong, but I'm pretty angry about it still.
Plus the fact that every one was taking DI WAY too seriously. So we got 20th, we still did better that all those teams that got places 21` though 39. And since we competed with the best 60 (In DI, there are lots of ties. We were in a four way tie for 20th.) It's not like we were complete crap. And the originators of the idea for DI takes too seriously as well. Apparently the main puropse of the program isn't to be completely insane with idea's while trying to solve a problem, but for people to learn to solve problems creativily so they, the studnets, are better prepraded to solve the worlds problems. (With copious amounts of ducktape and velcro.)
On a more fandomy note, the folks we hung out the most were from Indiana too, and our major competors at the state level for the last three years. And I also meet my first Indiana Mistie in the flesh. (His favorite part happens to be Girl in Gold Boots were the guy "teleports" in.) He told me I was the first person he met who knew what a Shuggoth is too. And a team from Edan Prarie made it to gobals too, so I got a Edan Prarie team pin. And a Lubbck, TX pin. And a bright neon green shirt pin, but that one it kinda streching it.
I'll get to Flordia in another post. But it's very nice to be home again.
