Being bored, with dictionary.com infront of me, I decied to do a little searching. After looking up "enqueue", I just started typeing in things, "CROW", "GYPSY", "TOM", "SERVO", "JOEL", "MIKE", "LASER", ect. Then I rememered that in "Crossover Sign!", the mads had looked like the MADs. And since she italicizes The Satelite of Love, I figured it had somthing to do with it. Plus the whole sketch about what MAD means.
So I type it in, and it gives me a whole bunch of results, but the one I happen to like the best was "Maladjusted, Antisocial, and Darn Mean." (After the one for "Main Activity Director," but before "Mutualy Assured Destruction.") Apparently this particualr acronym for MAD was made on "The King Kong Show." One segment of the show was obviously about the big ape, who in this particular incarnation was a cute, cuddly thing that liked to play with his friends, the Bonds, and who needed help protecting from Dr. Who. The other segment was from Tom of THUMB, a PI who had accidently shrunk himself and his assitent, martial artist Swinging Jack, while they were standing in front of a shrink ray.
Sounds far fetched? 'Cause, really, Dr. Who? Behold! And don't forget the theme song.
Anyway, after looking at the age of the cartoon, 1966, I'm thinking that maybe this could be the insperation for MAD? If the MiSTies didin't make it up, that is.
