Any country that had reasonable access to firearms, or even modern bow-hunting equipment, would have a bloodbath. And even when the alien threat went away, even if all the soldiers stopped collecting at that very moment, there would still be a whole lot of firefights still going on at that moment.

And as soon as the threat of their own children being taken away was gone, would the soldiers really just stand down under orders, or start a coup against the government?

Any country that had a reasonably working democracy would have the government in power tossed out on it's ear the minute they had elections.

I doubt any of this massive civil unrest would be mentioned again in-universe, because there is apparently no middle between current government and facisim in the Whoverse.
