twincityhacker: hands in an overcoat's pockets (Angst)

My CD/DVD drive is officially Broked. When I heard it make the Terrible Noise, I had a feeling it was. When I did a recovery on the computer, I ran a test just on the drive, and it wouldn't even recognize there was anything in there. = (

Positive side, I've now backed up everything! And have a spiffy little external harddrive to boot.

Anyone have any recommendations on a CD/DVD reader/writer?

I've got this one, and so far, no issues: Clicky!

Though, if you save the cables from your old one, you can get an OEM version, which is a bit cheaper, just doesn't come with anything else (or even a box, usually XD). Depending on what type of cable you've got, you can either get this one (thin, wide cables), or this one (small, normal-looking cable, usually red with black connectors).

Thanks! I'm looking into exactly what I need. And since the cables seem to be fine, the OEM one sounds just about right.

At least you did not go into a total red alert panic like some one you know might have done.

Guess who

Nope. Now, if my hard drive had suddenly bricked... there might have been blood. Not necessarily my own.
