MST3K ref on A Daily Show! Which was a somewhat false reference because I kinda doubt he's referencing the KTMA era. But I live in hope!
And John Oliver is back. Because apparently he's on a work visa - and obligated not to strike or otherwise he'll be deported. O_O

Date: 2008-01-10 04:44 am (UTC)The return of that and Colbert is one of the biggest twists in the strike. For one, everything is somewhat improv now, resulting in a much more candid show. A much sharper, nastier sense of humour is popping up that would never make it to air before. Or the flip side, Colbert's interviews are actually watchable now.
The other big deal is that this gives the writers a huge mouthpiece during the strike. Look at what the Colbert fans have in the past based on simple jokes. Imagine what's going to happen if Stewart and Colbert manage to get them to take actions supporting the writers.
All in all, the two shows are the only US series I'm following at all. I refuse to watch reality television and I'm quite enjoying the midseason spike in new Canadian series.

Date: 2008-01-12 04:46 am (UTC)Except for the fact that the WGA and a great deal of it's supporters is crucifying everyone that appears on a struck show even if they're giving out information about the strike.
So, like you've seen, there's only the odd comment. Especially since people have been trying to get the labor professor that appeared on the first episode kicked out of his position.
