Things To See. Or Not.
Sep. 17th, 2004 08:29 pmInternational Recommend-A-Movie Day. This means everyone should go to their LJ right now and tell their friends to watch a really good movie which most of them probably have not seen. And then tell more people to do it. Hopefully, we'll all have lots and lots of recommendations by the end of the day.
My recomendations aren't exactly unknown, but people have probaby not seen them.
The first is Gypsy. It's the life story of the bulsque dancer Louise Hovick, also known as Gypsy Rose Lee. It's based on the book, which got made into a muscial, then a moive. Natlite Wood plays Louise and Bette Midler plays Mama Rose.
The next is Them. It's a 50's sci-fi giant ant movie that is actaully pretty decent. And makes more sense that most "insects that grow really big because of nuclear contamination" movies get. *cough*BegingingoftheEnd*cough*. It's dated, certinly, but once you get beyond that, it's good.
And you can't forget Shadow of a Vampire. Shadow of a Vampire is a movie based on a "what if" thing where the lead actauly is a vampire. They have footage from Nosforatu or really good rereactions of it interspliced with the movie. It's as close as you can get to the actual movie Nosforatu as you can get. And I've most likey already reced this, but maybe I haven't.
And finaly for the love of all that is good and holy do not watch Train Ride to Hollywood. It's a cheesy musical staring the 70's band BLOODSTONE. A band member gets knocked out and has this dream where he and the band are on a train with a bunch of famous actors and charecter achtypes. And there's this akward murder mystery angle... It's not worth the $1.40 I paid for it.
