twincityhacker: hands in an overcoat's pockets (They all wore a green carnation)
I read this a little while ago, but since it still fills me with a little bit of glee, I'll share.

Okay, in the New York Times a few weeks ago there was an article that the Conservative branch of Judaism in the US was admitting gays into rabbi school. Which is all well and good, but the part that filled me with a bit more joy that it probably should is the part where they quote one of the people who where attending the rabbi school that the reporter went to get quotes from was identified as Mark Webber*, a heterosexual rabbical student.

And yes, I was tempted to send it to the mail box that all of John Barrowman's fan letters go to, but I figured that would be creepy so I decided not to.

*Not his real name, but I can't remember what it was.

Uhm. The manuscript I sent to the lecturer was crap. Mostly for the fact that I (a) was hating humanity at that point and (b) couldn't make my advocation relevant without descending into a bitchfest or paranoid rambling.

So! Poll:
[Poll #963124]

Yeah. Right now I'm leaning towards "anti-smoking ban" for I can find things to cite other than radio hosts/presenters whose essays share something similar to my own viewpoint. Because apparently we need pictures plus words to manipulate convince our audience.

But I've only got three more weeks of actual "going to class" so I think this is all partly END SCHOOL YEAR END. Which just brings the "attempting to find summer employment" which has gone to a fantastically bad start that three groups has refused to hire me.

They killed my Black Donnellys! This is the second show that has died in this time slot this year, the other being Studio Sixty on the Sunset Strip.

Now it's an improv show. Now, I like improv. But to axe two good shows? *sighs* At least with the internet I can at least finish out the season on NBC.com for free.

And apparently:

When you see a Shakespeare quote you must respond with one of your own in your LJ.

Hamlet: "The air bites shrewdly; it is very cold."
Horatio: "It is an eager and nipping air."
Hamlet: "What hour now?"
Horatio: "I think it lacks of twelve."

Hamlet, Scene Unknown, Act I.

Because "Much About [Censored]" by Connie Willis is awesome. It's a short story how a student's best friend convinces their English teacher to do Shakespeare. So between school and football practice she and her best friend help the teacher censor out all of the plays and lines that have injunctions to them. Somehow, Hamlet makes though the play list and those four lines are the only lines in the entire play that aren't censored out. ( Seriously, "Who's there?" is bad'n'wrong because there were statistically less murder and crime before English had contractions. Then there's "This scene implies that the curtains are dangerous because Polnious gets stabbed behind them, when it's people kill people, and not curtains." )

Plus, MST3K did Hamlet.
