Okay. I think I finaly figured out one of the reasons why the camera movements bother me so much in Battlestar Galatica.

In one of the space scenes in the season finale, one of the cameras filming had debries brushed up against it. So instead of the camera being omipresent, it's a actual camera footage from one of the ships in the fleet. Therefore, I think the show insn't a drama, but a mock documentary.

Which begs the question who's telling the story if they can film the woman who really isn't there.

And I did not shout "NO! Not Cambot!" when the camera durring the outer space scene got hit. Not at all.

I guess I can see why they'd want to do that, though. Every space show in history has just kind of had a steady cam on the ship, or a steady cam out in space. I can appreciate that they'd want to shake things up a bit (god, seriously, no pun intended), and I'd say that switching between "real-life" ship cam and disembodied-cam like you said can be an effective cinematic tool in itself.

But having said that, it gets on my nerves sometimes, too. What bugs me is when they use over-dramatic shots in shipboard conversational scenes. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching CSI or something (I hate that feeling, which is why I never watch CSI). It's like, GUYS, not every scene has to be shot with visceral, gut-clenchingly in-your-face cinematography, with abrupt changes and astoundingly dramatic angles. It might even be more effective if you didn't do it once in a while. ^_^
