One reason why the election coverage 24/7 for the last two years is bad: news stories get swept under the rug in favor of stupid things like whether Hilary Clinton getting a little teary-eyed during a speech.
I can't even say "the latest travesty" because it's not the latest at all: the treaty was signed in February. The treaty I'm talking about is an agreement between the countries of Canada and the United States to provide troops to the other country during times of unrest.
And since the US goverment has decided to do away with Posse Comitatus for US regular army, throw in extra extra Canadian flavor and, we have a new exciting storm of civil liberties shredding. And, on the US side, Constitutional guarantees - I can't speak for the Canadian side on civil issues much other than there's a Parliamentary system and Stephen Harper is PM.
The Consitutional Blow-offs is mostly in Article II, Clause 2: "He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments." I mean, consulting congress about it would have been ridiculous!
So, in the end, the first sign of civil unrest, we have US and Canadian regular army in the streets.
