Why I don't get any sleep.

Mike Nelson, Crow, and Tom go into a IHOP in Minniapolis at 3 o'clock in the morning. They order waffles. Then due to a amazing plot contrivene, Michael J. Nelson just happens to walk into the same IHOP and sits in the booth across from them. He orders waffles. Crow then asks Michael J. Nelson for some maple syrup, since the wait staff has all gone off for a smoke break.
So what happens now? Do they set off a catalismtic chain reaction, destorying all of the known univsrse or does Michael J. Nelson mearly share the joy of hot maple syurp?
Personaly, I fall on the side of the maple syrup. I have this strange theory that MST3K charecters are like cartoon charectors, who cannot suffer poofdom. But if you happened to insert Buffy Summers and Sarah Michele Geller in Mike Nelson and Michael J. Nelson roles, the universe would be toast. Or at the very least the two would faint.

I think too much.

However, because MST3K is a show that twists the line between reality and fiction, I think the two Mikes could co-exist. Prisoners of Gravity had a similar take on reality/fiction and a interesting example for this idea (characters and actors co-existing) from that canon can be heard here. Of note is Commander Rick's comment "And something called Four on the Floor". Four on the Floor was a Canadian comedy series from the mid-80s that starred a group called The Frantics. Rick Green was a member this group and he later went on to co-create Prisoners of Gravity and play Commander Rick in that series.
So... Commander Rick and Rick Green are both able to co-exist in this universe and, at the very least, Commander Rick is aware of Rick Green's existence. For some reason, poofdom doesn't occur. Therefore, we can guess that the two Mikes can be aware of each other and co-exist without poofdom setting in.
I hope that makes sense.

Date: 2006-01-07 11:12 pm (UTC)This, however, would call for something more Dr. Whovian. In this case, the Blinovich Limitation effect; what happens when two of the same person (though from different time periods) are in the same place at the same time. This doesn't apply to the Doctor, naturally, because his different incarnations are inherently different people (not unlike Dax in DS9), but it has been addressed as to Dr. Who co-stars.
Then again, it also depends on whether or not you view Mike and his actor as very similar or very different. I tend to look at 'em as being different people entirely, though a lot of people look at it the other way around. Given that they're seperate people...
Okay. I'd say poofdom, then. Michael J. would not probably be able to resist mentioning Mike's fictional status (Teddog's reply gives the basics of the 'poofdom' theory, a universal constant, at least in my universe), and even if he did, I'm not sure either of them could handle the overload of coming face to face with one another.
So, it'd be Blinovitch, poofdom or stroke. Maybe all three at once!
::snickers:: We had an actor vs. character skit once. It was hilarious.

Date: 2006-11-17 09:53 pm (UTC)It would be like the 10th Doctor meeting Barty Crouch. THey look alike, but are two completely separate people. Same with Mike and Michael. They look alike, and have a bit of a similar personality, but they have differences that make them different people. (Namely, Mike went up in space). So Mike and Co. could interact with Michael and nothing would happen.
Unless the Master's up to soemthing again.
