The Alphabet meme, commenting on five characters with names begining with a letter. My letter from [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako was H.

Hamlet - I'm not sure why, but I am deeply unsympathetic to Hamlet. I spend half the play just repeating "Just kill your goddamn uncle already!" Especially after Hamlet knows that Claudius really did the deed, and it wasn't the Devil sowing discord.

Joel Hogdson - KTMA Era MSt3K is Awesome! Joel Hogdson is more or less Joel Robinson, except he was never had success as a prop comic.

Harley Quinn - I like her. She's like the Joker, but you can actually have fun with her without ending up dead. And Ivy/Harvey is love.

Harvey Dent - Another Batman villain. Why are Batman villains so likeable? Well, maybe not like able but you're happy to see them every time they show up, unlike Lex Luther some other villains.

Harriet Jones, PM - I still think she was right to blow up the ship in "The Christmas Invasion," and even though she was thrown out of power she still did her best to do her duty and protect the planet.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] beccaelizabeth asked for some recs for SciFi and Fantasy films that pasted the Bechdel rule: 1. There must be two female charecters, 2. They have a conversation, 3. They talk about something other than a man.

Resident Evil
On the Edge
Mulan
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
Return to Oz
Sleepy Hollow
James and the Giant Peach
Robin Hood - the animated Disney version
The Wiz
Them!

I'm not one hundred percent sure that Them! paces the muster. But since the alternative was "Sleeping Beauty," I went with the spirit instead of the letter. The last four movies on this list was like pulling teeth, after the top bit's already broken off but the root is still in the jaw.

But I'm a Cheerleader!
Some Like it Hot
Clue
Ice Blues
Chicago
The Cat and Canary
Murder on the Orient Express
Lilo and Stich
Blue Hawaii
Eagle vs Shark

Much easier list! I only had problems with the last one, because my brain stalled and I couldn't think of the names of any movies other than "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Producers." I really need to find a copy of blue Hawaii

Hamlet - I think I'm one of the few fans who totally and unreservedly love and identify with him; or maybe it's just that the fans who don't like him so much are more vocal.

You mean Ivy/Harley, right? Not Harvey Dent? Because Ivy/Harley is very, very cute.

I like Harriet Jones, too. In fact - I totally loved her in "The Stolen Earth".

I think people who say they don't like Hamlet are very vocal, because it's often said to be one of the greatest works of literature in English... and it just doesn't live up to the hype.

*facepalm* Yes, I meant Ivy/Harley. I wrote Harley for the entire Harvey entry. I think this is why they call him Two Face.

Yes, and it has the stigma of being assigned in schools, which can destroy anything ever written.

It lives up to hype for me - but I don't know many people for whom that's true. And I suspect the ways it appeals to me are not what the academics have in mind when they praise it.

Two-Face as Harley Dent - hee! That would put a new complexion on it all - no wonder he's so screwed up.
