Today, I got to skip school today. YAY! So I went to school this morning, screwed around in the liberary, and then went to the gym to help with the blood drive. I had the utra cool job as the canteen worker (three times running!) were I fed the donners, and made sure that if they felt woozy, that they lay down before they FELL down. And since there where eight workers instead of the normal two or three, I did almost nothing most of the day. And since they're were hardly any sick people, until the end of the day. That was good.

The sick people were the people whose bodies didn't like having a pint or so blood taken out. 90% of people are just fine and dandy. But when the get sick, they go white faced in a second and start to get dizzy about 5 mintues or so after they give. They can also get really hot, and throw up.

On the other end of the spectrum, one girl counldn't stop laughing when she gave. The blood loss had made her lightheaded and giddy. For some people, that "I'm about to pass out" feeling is pretty cool.

There was an almost minor disater halfway though the day. Since it took three hours to go though the entire process, a whole host of people didn't get to eat lunch, which is very, very bad if you are either about to give or just gave blood, obviously. But since they're always a massive excess of food for the workers we gave them our lunch. The only other problem spot was where this one girl was so affected by the blood loss she keeped passing out and couldn't remember where she was. After she remembered in the gym, she kept wanting to go back to class, so someone occasionaly had to hold her down. Not fun. Especialy since I'm in the same class with her and I told her that we were doing nothing in class a few times. (I have no idea if we where or not, but the odds were that we weren't). So the last hour or so I just kept changing her and another girls compresses and keeping them talking.

But the excelent news is that we got 90 units of blood, or 270 parts (platelets, red blood cells, and plasma). YAY!
