I don't question whether or not people think that he's real or not, but whether people consider him mute or not. But most fics deal with the "drunken game of Charades" one way or another.
Probably. I think there was one point in canon where he does speak, but that was the pilot.
Non-verbal communcation seems almost cuter in Cambot's case, since he's the 'bot that looks the least human, making reading the body language a harder task.
Yeah, I know about the pilotverse line. But regular cannon, he speaks a few times too. In the theme song, after The Voice says Cambot! He says "You're on!" or "Pan Left!" and so on.
And while non-verbal communication would probably be better, it's kinda hard to write his choregraphy to fit - especialy when when I'm vauge on what he currently looks like.
