Even though no one really cares that much to sort US pennies from Canadian pennies.
I've noticed this too, especially in areas with high amounts of tourist traffic like Southwestern Ontario. In fact, I'd go so far to say that down there, most American change is taken on par with Canadian change. It's not too uncommon to get American quarters and dimes or other foreign coins back after shopping at a grocery store. An extreme example would be that I once got 10 cents Jamaican back instead of 25 cents Canadian because the coins look a lot alike at first glance.
The headache problem might be cause by refresh rate (not likely with the laptop) or the brightness level. Mac and PC monitors don't display colour in the same way.
