Today, for goverment class we did a Supreme Court simulation, and I got to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Of course, it was a panel that was never going to happen in real life 'cause it was eight white girls and a hispanic guy, but that's not the point.

So we got the case California vs. Greenwood (1984), only we didn't know that it was an actual case at the time. So we went into "chambers" and debated the case amoungst ourselves. We mostly made up our mind - unamimous for California.

We go back to class, and hear probably the worst debate I've ever heard. We didn't have any questions for California, and then we started grilling Greenwood for all the extremely innae (and wrong) things that they were saying.

Yeah, most of the people on the Court should have been the lawyers.

Back to "chambers" and a debate. We decide again, unamimous for Califorina, since we belived that the evdenice used to convict wasn't obtained properly, but they would have gotten the evidence a few days later after sifting though lots of trash.

Then the teacher says that we can't say the evidence used is admissable, but they shouldn't tell the sanatation workers to seperate the suspect's trash from the others. Then it went to 5 - 4 in favor of Greenwood.

If you're wondering, California vs. Greenwood (1984) is the precednce police use for going though trash on the curb. Since you're abandoned the property, the police don't need a warrent for it.

Also, quite a few students in our class are in favor of letting the goverment, spy on people, and consider gay people to be one of the worst things to happen to Earth, above poverty, AIDS, famine...

My Goverment class scares me.
