As seen from [livejournal.com profile] gypsyjr:

Everyone's favorite cowtown puppet show - and this is irrefutable as it's the only one - is producing "new adventures" of the 'bots. Heading the project it Jim Mallon and Paul Chaplin.

At the moment everyone seems to be... incredibly sceptical.

At least no one is angry at just the idea of a re-invention, as Rifftrax is more or less MST3K without puppets. At least there isn't any wank! Yet.

I could have sworn I read this fic before... though, it will probably lack the crossover with the gender-swaping and global trek back to Minnesota. Or the breaking into NASA. And probably the talking cat, the other talking cat, REALITY 1, the HUB, or the Holocabana won't be there either. I have no doubt there will be destruction of the Hubble, though!

Huh! Well, I think there's plenty of room for both this and Rifftrax and such (though I'm wistful at the idea of MST3K: The Next Generation), and am excited.

I'm excited too, if just to see what a pure plot-driven BBI story would be like.

What's with all the Jim Mallon hate? (I have no dog in that fight, I'm just curious.) Just because Mike and company have moved on after working with him for many years doesn't automatically mean there's bad blood.

I'm not sure. I know there was fighting between him and Joel Hodgson, but I never heard anyone else speak ill of him.

I would be surprised that Kevin Murphy wouldn't want to work with him again, just for the fact that they worked together for... at least 15 years? Mid eighties, at least. And Mike was there for nearly a decade, so... *shrugs*

Hey, they're all creative people, creative people don't tend to like to do the same project forever and ever no matter what it is. *shrugs* I'd heard the same thing, that Joel and Jim didn't get on (but then, Joel seems a bit...difficult himself), but I never heard that anyone else had a big problem behind the scenes.

I don't know. I kinda wish it included Reality 1....

Like it would ever happen, but still.

I wish it would include more satellites than just the Russian ones... though, yeah, Reality 1 looks like a long shot.

There's never been much talk about Jim Mallon except for the Joel leaving because of him info. Since just about all the MST3K people have praised ALL the other main MST3K people EXCEPT for Mallon, I assume there are some things they don't like about their former boss but just haven't expressed publicably (yet). I hope the new series is worth watching, but I won't be holding my breath :)

My, how terribly Midwestern of them. *laughs*

That is a bit telling, but I haven't read very many interviews of the Brains, so I wasn't sure what they say about each other.

And there was also a vibe I got in the last few seasons that Mallon was doing everything he could to merchandise MST3K to make more money for himself. Similar claims were made about Gene Roddenberry in the last season of Classic Trek. But The Great Bird of the Galaxy went on to spawn more successful Trek series and movies, so maybe Mallon can do the same thing. But I don't think Mallon has nearly the same creative genius that Roddenberry had.

Lots and lots of Gypsy, and at least a little bit of Cambot, because there is no excuse not to have either of them in there.
